What is Airgun Field Target?
Airgun Field Target (FT) is a precision shooting discipline that challenges shooters to engage small targets at varying distances in an outdoor environment. Using air rifles, competitors must rely on accuracy, consistency, and environmental awareness to successfully hit targets that often simulate small game or field conditions.
Unlike traditional range shooting, FT emphasizes real-world shooting positions such as standing, kneeling, and prone, often without artificial support. This creates a dynamic and rewarding experience that blends marksmanship with problem-solving.
Airgun Field Target sanctioning body is the World Field Target Federation (WFTF) and our Canadian association is the Canadian Airgun Field Target Association (CAFTA).
A Unique Outdoor Shooting Experience
FT courses are typically set up in natural environments, using terrain, vegetation, and varied distances to create a realistic and immersive shooting experience.
Competitors may encounter:
- – Targets placed at unknown or varying distances.
- – Challenging shooting angles and positions.
- – Environmental factors such as wind and lighting.
This makes every session different and encourages shooters to continuously refine their skills.
