What is it: 5 Stand is a shotgun shooting sport, similar to sporting clays, trap and skeet. There are five shooting stations, and multiple strategically placed clay target throwers. Every Thursday, during the season, ELGC members get together to shoot on our state of the art, 5 Stand range. For some additional information on 5 Stand, check out https://en.wikipedia.org/.
Who can do it: ELGC, members in good standing, their guests and invitees (note: you must sign in/out at the clubhouse on arrival /departure)
When does it happen: The 5 Stand season is generally from the May long weekend, to Thanksgiving weekend. Weather will dictate an earlier start or later finish to the season. Timing: start time – 5:30 PM (ish). If the group is early and ambitious, things may start a little earlier. As it gets later in the season (and dark earlier) the start time will creep earlier as well. Activities continue as long as there are shooters who want to shoot, or until dusk. Check the events calendar regularly, http://eaglelakegunclub.ca/events/, for specific dates/timings. We have Gord’s Road Kill Cafe is open and if you’re early you can have dinner.
What firearm can I shoot: Any shotgun, 12 gauge or smaller.
What ammunition can I use: Only target loads with a maximum shot size of #7-1/2.
What does it cost: $5.00 per round (25 clays), paid to the Range Officer, on site.
Safety: Each 5 Stand shooting event at ELGC, starts with a safety brief and all shooting is under the direction of experienced, 5 Stand Shooters.
What else do I need to know: This is an outdoor event! Inclement weather (and bugs) are all part of the ELGC, 5 Stand experience. Pack a sweater, raincoat, sunscreen and bug repellant.
